Navigation
I redesigned the main navigation of the desktop for the entire site since the current navigation doesn’t bring more traffic and not serving our purpose.

Current sitemap analysis
Current top navigation:
Current footer:
While mapping out current sitemap, I found a lot of duplicated content. So I did a content audit too to list out what’s been duplicated and what’s been inconsistent through our site.
Market reference:
Before re-architect our own nav, I pulled out some reference from current market (including competitors) to see how their navigation works. I like how everyone focus ons their priorities make the goals of the site pretty obvious. I would like to simplify ours too.
Consolidate and regroup informtaion
People came to A Place for Mom for 2 main goals:
Search for a senior living community
Read about different dare types (we have high traffic to article page according to data)
On the business side, A Place for Mom is giving service (resources):
how the service works
senior living advisors
other resources
So by combining users & business needs, I came up 2 version of the navigation:
Version 1:
Version 2:
Wireframing
Mobile first
The simpler the better:
By discussing with my manager, we decided to mock up mobile screens first based on version 2.
Our desktop size is 1440px and if we mock up directly on the desktop we might loose the focus by a wide screen, mobile first can also help us focus our main goals first.
Usertesting
Made V1 as prototype for usertesting, the feedback is pretty positive.
Was worried people are confused what is “resources“, but they understood it.
Feedback & Iteration & Solution
Feedback & iteration
Showcased our proposed design to PM and devs. Received below feedback:
No search for now till later
No mobile & tablet consideration, try desktop approach first
For quick implement, made desktop nav 2 tiers and match the same height as current nac
Keep care type access & city link on new designs
