Overview
Health E Living is a Black female-owned organization focused on mental health management. I redesigned their iOS and Android app end to end, from screening flows to resource discovery.
Problem
Users often couldn't recognize their own symptoms, had no clear way to find the right mental health provider among many options, and the existing app struggled to retain them.
What I did
- Audited the existing app's three core features — provider search, screening, and resources — and found the navigation confusing with no clear goal
- Worked with the business owner to balance user needs against the business's provider-referral revenue model, elevating provider search as the primary feature
- Designed mid-fidelity user flows differentiating registered vs. unregistered users to encourage retention through health tracking
- Explored warmer, more approachable brand colors after reviewing competitor mental health apps
- Designed clear UI for different screening question types (single/multi-select, yes/no, frequency) and progress indicators distinguishing mandatory vs. optional assessments
- Delivered a full design system — typography, spacing, buttons, colors — for developer handoff
Outcome
The redesigned app is in active development with ongoing design reviews, available on the App Store and Google Play.
