Mamma Roma website

Overview

Mamma Roma is a Roman-style pizza restaurant in Park Slope, Brooklyn under new ownership. The new menu and look weren't reflected anywhere online.

Problem

The existing website was outdated — customers had no way of knowing about the restaurant's new ownership, menu, or identity.

What I did

  • Researched the Park Slope neighborhood and interviewed the new owners and chef to understand their vision and Roman-style pizza focus
  • Reviewed competitor restaurant sites and found a pattern worth following: photo-forward layouts, clear reservation CTAs, and bold black-or-white palettes
  • Built a sitemap that worked within Squarespace's constraints, in partnership with the developer
  • Developed a color palette inspired by the film “Mamma Roma” — black, white, and orange
  • Designed two high-fidelity directions and landed on a full-screen imagery, minimalist-nav version after stakeholder feedback
  • Incorporated feedback for dark mode, a hamburger menu, and more pizza-process imagery

Outcome

Finalized wireframes handed off for Squarespace build — the team was happy with the redesign, though the restaurant later closed due to the pandemic.
