The Wilder League app

Overview

The pandemic left runners isolated and unmotivated. Wilder League lets runners join competitive races with people anywhere in the world, or create private races for friends and family.

Problem

Runners had lost their usual sense of connection and motivation, and wanted a virtual way to reconnect and push each other to keep running.

What I did

  • Defined target users — regular runners, runner groups, and newcomers — around one goal: motivate people to run the same race, anywhere, anytime
  • Mapped user flows and surfaced new needs along the way: Strava integration, a “last minute race” path, a “My races” hub, and invite-code access for private races
  • Translated low-fidelity sketches into mid-fidelity wireframes establishing the app's structure
  • Designed the visual system, then resolved two late-stage challenges: condensing race info into clean cards, and clearly separating public vs. private race creation

Outcome

A complete iOS design shipped in one month, with a few open questions flagged for the next round — a missing race-name field, better race categorization, and race notifications.
